What oven repairs cost by part
These are Angi’s 2026 national averages for parts and labor combined. They’re estimates, not quotes. Your price depends on the brand, the model and local labor rates (Angi).
- Thermostat: about $150 ($100 to $200)
- Door switch or gas valve: about $150 each ($100 to $200)
- Sensor, fan motor or door gasket: about $175 each ($100 to $250)
- Igniter: about $200 ($150 to $250)
- Door glass: about $200 ($100 to $300)
- Control board: about $225 ($150 to $300)
- Heating element: about $275 ($150 to $400)
- Insulation: about $300 ($100 to $400)
Costs by problem and oven type
If you don’t know which part failed yet, the symptom gives you a rough budget. Angi’s 2026 ranges are $150 to $300 for a control board malfunction, $200 to $350 for clicking on a gas oven, $100 to $400 for door problems and $100 to $600 for poor heating or self-cleaning trouble (Angi).
Electric oven repairs usually cost the least, at $100 to $250. Gas and convection ovens run $100 to $600, and steam ovens $200 to $600. A gas line specialist charges about $45 to $150 an hour, and an electrician about $50 to $100 an hour. Stovetop repairs add $150 to $600, and a heavily soiled oven can add a $25 cleaning fee (Angi).
Safety first
- Gas smell. If you smell gas, leave right away, avoid anything that could make a spark and call your gas utility and 911 once you’re a safe distance away (Nicor Gas).
- Tip-overs. CPSC counted 38 deaths from range tip-overs between 1980 and 2008, and 20 of them were children aged 1 to 5. Anti-tip brackets have been required since 1991 (CPSC). If your range was moved for a repair, check that the bracket is engaged again.
- Recalls. Search the CPSC recall list for your brand and model before you pay for a fix.
Repair or replace?
Angi says ovens last about 12 to 16 years. A repair makes sense if it buys several more years of service for less than half the cost of a new oven. A new oven typically costs $800 to $2,500, plus about $200 to install (Angi).
Would a home warranty help with the next oven bill?
A home warranty is a service contract that helps pay to repair or replace some home systems and appliances. Know these numbers before you buy:
- Price. The DC Attorney General says a basic home warranty costs $500 a year or more (DC Attorney General). NerdWallet’s average was about $876 a year (NerdWallet).
- Service fee. You usually pay a fee for each repair visit, typically $75 or more (DC Attorney General). NerdWallet found an average of about $108 (NerdWallet).
- Is the item covered? Some plans exclude kitchen appliances, water heaters, furnaces and other major appliances, or charge extra to cover them (DC Attorney General).
- Caps and exclusions. Claims can be capped. Contracts can exclude wear and tear, manufacturer defects and problems from skipped maintenance. The company may repair rather than replace, and may pick the contractor (DC Attorney General).
Many oven repairs cost less than a year of a home warranty plan (DC Attorney General), so a plan makes more sense if it also covers other aging appliances. Don’t count on a brand-new plan to pay for something that’s already broken; read when coverage starts and what it excludes. See our home warranty cost guide.
